Editorial & Ethics Policy

Alsett's job is to report accurately and independently on the exhibitions and events industry. This policy explains the standards our editorial team works to.

Independence

• Editorial decisions are made by our editors, not by advertisers, sponsors, exhibitors, or event organizers.
• Advertising, sponsorship, and marketplace relationships do not buy coverage, favorable coverage, or the right to review stories before publication.
• When we accept media credentials, travel, or hospitality from an organizer, it does not oblige us to cover an event positively, or at all.

Accuracy

• We verify facts such as dates, venues, figures, names, and titles against primary sources: organizers, official event sites, company statements, and on-the-record interviews.
• Event figures (exhibitor counts, attendance, floor space) are attributed to their source. Where they come from an organizer or a third-party dataset, we say so.
• Event listings and data-driven summaries in our calendar and directory are compiled from public sources and organizer information. Dates and details can change, so readers should confirm with the organizer before traveling.

Sponsored and partner content

• Paid content is labeled clearly as Sponsored, Partner Content, or Advertisement, and is visually separate from news.
• Marketplace listings and featured company placements are commercial, and are labeled as such.
• Affiliate or commercial relationships relevant to a story are disclosed in that story.

Sourcing and attribution

• We identify sources by name and title wherever possible. Anonymous sourcing is used only when it is necessary and approved by an editor.
• Quotes are reproduced accurately. We do not alter quotes beyond trimming for length without changing meaning.
• We credit the original reporting of other publications when we build on it.
• Press release material is attributed and is not presented as our own reporting.

Embargoes and off-the-record

• We honor embargoes we have agreed to in advance.
• We respect agreed off-the-record and background terms.

Images and media

• Photos and video are credited. We do not publish images that we have no right to use.
• We do not manipulate news images in ways that mislead.
• We follow venue and organizer photography rules when we are credentialed at an event.

Conflicts of interest

• Staff and contributors disclose any financial or personal interest in companies or events they cover, and step back from coverage where a conflict exists.

AI and automation

• Some calendar entries and data summaries (for example, counts of upcoming shows by city or industry) are generated automatically from our events database. These are labeled as data summaries and are not presented as original reporting.
• Reported articles, interviews, and analysis are written and edited by people.
